What do we do?
This page has more information about what we do.
Plain language
Plain language is for everyone. Plain language makes your words user-friendly and more inclusive.
It helps people understand your content and find what they need.
We use:
- clear language
- headings
- short sentences
- active voice
- bullet lists.
Plain language makes people want to read your information.
Plain language helps people who
- are busy
- are stressed
- have a lot to read
- need to understand a hard topic.
User testing
We co-design our Easy Read with people who have lived experience of low literacy and intellectual disability.
Easy Read
Easy Read translation is the conversion of complex information into simplified, clear, and easily understandable text with supporting images. It is beneficial for people with cognitive disabilities, low literacy levels, or those who are learning a new language.
Easy Read makes information accessible to broader audiences. It improves service provision and broadens the potential customer base of a business.
PDF Tagging
PDF tagging supports people who use screen readers to engage with content. A properly tagged PDF will let screen reader users know when they are reading a heading or a list or a table. It will describe images and ensure that the content is read out in the correct order.
A PDF that is not tagged, or a PDF that has been tagged using automated software, will often read content in the wrong order, in ways that are not comprehensible or not read content at all.
